Lifestyle Medicine

Following Lifestyle Medicine Principles

Ancient healers and physicians from all corners of the world, from Hypocrites, Charaka, Avicenna, Galen, Marcus Aurelius, to druids and Native Americans based their teachings on this knowledge. Unfortunately, their mindset and wisdom gained and followed over many, many generations was almost fully lost with the rise of modern approaches to medicine and the quick fix mindset we adopted with it. Whilst the progressive research found the cures for many diseases that we couldn’t treat before, at the same time we developed a lot more new ones. Because our lifestyle and mindset changed so drastically. Just imagine: humankind (to include our stone age ancestors Homo Habilis) is about 2 million years old. Modern medicine is around 100 years old. Yet in those 100 years, our way of life turned upside down compared to how we evolved to live. Only now we are starting to realise there is something fundamentally wrong about the way we live now and that perhaps honouring our intended design might just as well give us the best chance of restoring our health and wellbeing potential.

The idea that our physical and mental health is determined by healthy lifestyle habits, environment, and blooming and fulfilling relationships is actually the idea almost as old and humankind itself.

Yes, with Lifestyle Medicine we are re-inventing the wheel. Only now, for all those that need that extra bit of convincing, we also have an extensive, detailed research findings to back all the age old knowledge and philosophy that our predecessors proved through trial and error over generations.

  • The most desirabe, yet the most spontaneous outcome of following a healthy lifestyle is disease prevention. Prevention ideally begins from the day of our conception, depending on the lifestyle habits our carers follow and passed on to us. But even the intervention in the later stages of our life can prevent the development of many complications that would otherwise develop later.

  • In all other cases, when a complication already slipped in and started to wreak havoc into our lives, it’s never too late to reverse the course of it’s progressive path. Our bodies have amazing self-haling capabilities, all we need is to give them some time and space to initiate this process. But old habits, those that created the problem in the first place, they simply have to go.

  • Lifestyle changes are meant to last a lilfetime. The more we can reap the first positive benefits, the more encouraged we feel to embrace the change and continue restructuring our habits and mindsets.

3 Aspects of Lifestyle Medicine

Lifestyle therapy can bring on tangible results in these three key aspects.

6 Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine

Our lifestyle choices directly impact the quality of our life. But just how far-reaching this impact is is very much underestimated in today’ society and by today’s living standards. We are starting to see and understand the link between our health and our diet as clear as a day. But connecting family disharmony with poor diet and lifestyle choices? Or our continuous financial struggles to the brain malfunctions arising from poor lifestyle choices, including our diet? Whilst there can be other underlying causes of course, these broad symptoms are less frequently linked together, yet they are often the most logical and straightforward and should be always considered and remedied before resolving to any other, perhaps more radical fixes.

To truly enjoy the life to the full, all of these areas need to function efficiently. A fault in one inevitably triggers faults in the rest. Therefore we pay a very close attention to every one of these areas. Even seemingly unrelated symptoms have in fact a lot in common. Our coaches and therapists are trained in connecting the symptoms and imbalances and tracing them to root problem/s.

Diet in the Spotlight

Whilst all of the 6 pillars of the Lifestyle Medicine are equally important in achieving the optimal health, diet is the one that directly impacts the achievement of success in fixing the other 5, and it is also the one that is the most complex one to fix.

That is why we like to spend a lot of our time and expertise on this crucial aspect of your life. Fix the central one, the diet and the dietary habits, first and the rest of the 5 pillars will follow.
